Made me aware of pyserial.xbee which was a very useful tip. Also, use of byte-to-hex code.Setup instructions include writing parameters to XBee modems with AT commands allowing programming without Xctu software.
Uses older version of Xctu even though newer version had been released at time of writing. Not a big deal.
Examples of using XBee with different single board computers was helpful. Example with Beaglebone would be good addition for update of text although it would pretty much echo the Raspberry Pi setup.
Three bucks well spent!

I have a project with XBee and Arduino and the book is helpful
It is an interesting book
Fundamentals not well explained.
This book desperately needs a proof reader.
Now I know why this book was so "cheap". Basically a series of screenshots with poorly written descriptive text. I should have grabbed the sample. I may still try to get my money back.
The text needs review by an editor. However, an editorial service would increase the price from FREE to something more. The sample code is not commented much and the prose does not do a lot of explaining, but an experienced programmer will understand what the code does. The book uses Python as the programming language for the sample code to communicate between XBEE and PC. It would not be hard to convert the code to another language for those readers that prefer another language.
Recommended for programmers that want a quick introduction to XBEE communications.
For an in-depth programming and networking book on XBEEs and 802.15.4, readers should choose from the myriad of books available for a fee.
