A solid and imaginative story that opens a window onto a vanished civilization. I particularly liked the respect the author showed for the known historical facts. The story gave me a vivid picture of the Mayan culture -- certainly, more than I had previously despite having visited some of the sites mentioned in the story and knowing a bit of the pre-Spanish history. The characters are well developed and the pace keep me eager to turn the page to see what will happen next. The author should be commended for providing a list of references at the end for further reading.A great romp!

Juvenile. Politically correct. Implausible. I did finish it, though, so there is an adventure story within all the stuff that bugged me. In the end, I was a little mad at myself for finishing it.
John Reisinger has written another great book; quite different from what he has written before! An amazing amount of research into the Spanish and Mayan history in the 1500's results in an intriguing story of fact and fiction surrounding the adventures of main character Gonzalo Guerrero. Definitely a very good read!
